چکیده
Some solutions, as the administration of antifibrinolytic drugs (tranexamic acid), have been proposed to reduce the bleeding on a TKR surgery and to decrease the number of transfusions. Hyperfibrinolysis is considered being the major cause of postoperative bleeding after TKA surgery [10-14], the fibrinolytic system is activated in the first hours after surgery increasing the postoperative bleeding after remove the pneumatic tourniquet [15-17]. Tranexamic acid (TXA, trnas-4aminomethyl cyclohexane carboxylic acid), is a synthetic reversible inhibitor of fibrinolysis, that competitively blocks a lysine binding site of plasminogen [18]. It has been used during more than 20 years in cardiac surgery, urology, genecology, liver transplants, etc. This Abstract

The Efficacy of Intravenous Versus Topical Use of Tranexamic Acid in Reducing Blood Loss after Primary Total Knee Arthroplasty: A Randomized Clinical Trial
Background: Blood loss during and immediately after total knee arthroplasty (TKA) is among the most challenging concerns. It has been demonstrated that Tranexamic acid (TXA) can help to reduce perioperative blood loss. TXA can be used as an oral, topical or intravenous injection. Many studies evaluated the effectiveness of each route of administration but few works on a comparison between them....
متن کاملIntraarticular Administration of Tranexamic Acid Following Total Knee Arthroplasty: A Case-control Study
Background: Tranexamic acid (TXA) has received extensive attention in management of blood loss in orthopedic surgeries. However, the ideal method of TXA administration is still controversial. This study aims to determine whether intraarticular injection of TXA reduces blood loss after total knee arthroplasty (TKA). Methods: Through a retrospective case-control study consecutive TKA patients...
متن کاملIntra-articular versus Intravenous Tranexamic Acid in Total Knee Arthroplasty: A Randomized Clinical Trial
Background: Total knee arthroplasty (TKA) can cause excessive blood loss requiring allogenic transfusions.Tranexamic acid (TXA) has been increasingly used for lowering blood loss. The present study aimed to comparethe efficacy of intravenous (IV) and intra-articular (IA) administrations of TXA in TKA patients who receive aspirin aschemoprophylaxis and uses no drain post-operat...
متن کاملWhich Route of Tranexamic Acid Administration is More Effective to Reduce Blood Loss Following Total Knee Arthroplasty?
Background: The most appropriate route of tranexamic acid administration is controversial. In the current study, we compared the efficacy of intravenous (IV) and topical intra-articular tranexamic acid in reducing blood loss and transfusion rate in patients who underwent primary total knee arthroplasty. Methods: One hundred twenty 120 patients were scheduled to undergo primary total knee arth...
متن کاملTranexamic Acid Reduces Blood Loss and Transfusion in Patients Undergoing Total Knee Arthroplasty without Tourniquet: A Prospective Randomized Controlled Trial
INTRODUCTION Blood loss during and after total knee arthroplasty (TKA) can lead to substantial morbidity and the need for blood transfusions. There are several methods to minimize blood loss and to decrease transfusion rates in patients undergoing TKA. Tranexamic acid is an antifibrinolytic agent with known efficacy for achieving these goals. Currently, many surgeons are performing TKA without ...
